Peter Dinklage Says Hes Ready For Tyrions Political Leap In Game Of Thrones Season 2

By Jolie LashLOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Peter Dinklage is planning to return to the set of Season 2 of Game of Thrones a new man after his Best Supporting Actor Emmy win. When I get to my set on Tuesday, my trailer better be filled with green M&Ms, he joked, as he spoke to Access Hollywood on the red carpet at HBOs Emmys bash, alongside his very glowing pregnant and proud wife, Erica Schmidt. Dinklage, who won the Emmy for his role as Tyrion Lannister in Season 1 of the drama, is ready to go back to work and he promised some big changes for his character a fan favorite in Season 2. Its a really good season this season, he told Access. My character goes somewhere that he hasnt been before and Im not gonna say anything else, but its fun to see a character like Tyrion in the world, in the game the political game. He was on the outside of it and now hes on the inside. Its fun what happens. Tyrion has a new ally in Season 2 as he takes on his role as the Kings Hand a squire named Podrick Payne, played by Daniel Portman. I have a squire Hes only poured my wine so far, but hes very good at pouring wine, Peter said of the scenes the two have shot over in Belfast. I think thats a relationship that develops a bit as the show goes along, but were in the early stages of our relationship now, me and my squire. Readers of the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin know that Tyrions character has some major action in the second book, but so far the actor hasnt had to endure any grueling training on set to prepare. So far, not so much, but the first season I was thrown around a bit more than this season so far, Peter told Access. But you never know what they have in store. At the end of the season some things happen, but Im not gonna give anything away. As he hit the HBO party, which boasted a host of his fellow Game of Thrones stars in attendance, including producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Michelle Fairley (Catelyn Stark), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jamie Lannister), Mark Addy (the late King Robert Baratheon), and Jason Momoa (the late Khal Drogo), Peter told Access what went through his head as his name was called at the Emmys. Well I looked at Erica to make sure it was real, cause its sort of like Wooh! The world sort of bends. The movie The Matrix its sort of like that and then I just got up there I didnt prepare anything, he said. I forgot to thank my manager, I forgot to mention my mom I thanked my dog sitter my priorities are a little screwy, but anyway, but I thanked my wife (turns to Erica). [No], I didnt thank you I said, Hey, whats up? Copyright 2011 by NBC Universal, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
